PROVO, Utah – Josie GuinnSavanna Empey and Emma Bailey are part of the influx of freshmen that will write the next chapter for BYU women's soccer.

All three were drawn to the program's tradition of excellence.

"The program is amazing," said Guinn, a native of Murrieta, California. "Even before I came to camp as a freshman, it's been a dream."

Guinn's parents attended BYU, as did her brother Gavin, who played basketball for the Cougars, and her older sister.

Empey also has connections to BYU athletics. Her father, Mike, is on the football coaching staff. She has a brother who will join the football team as a lineman and a sister committed to the soccer team for 2020.

A goalkeeper, Empey is excited to work with new assistant coach Brent Anderson, who was a keeper on Utah State's club team before becoming a coach.

"I'm pumped about that," she said. "Brent has been awesome to get to know and work with so far."

Bailey doesn't have a family tradition of attending BYU, as she'll be the first Cougar from her family. She tore her ACL twice in high school and is grateful BYU has stuck with her as she's recovered.

"They were so supportive the first time it happened," she said. "I wasn't worried about them dropping me the second time because I knew them, and they had supported me before."

The trio joins the team with high expectations.

"We hope to win the national championship," Guinn said. "It's a really big goal, but I think our team is capable of winning it."

Empey agreed.

"We've only been here a month or two, but the program is great and eveyone works so hard," she said. "So how do you expect anything less than that?"
