IRVINE, Calif. – BYU center fielder Gordy Bravo wrapped up action at the World Cup of Softball X as Mexico finished in sixth place with a 6-5 loss to the USA Junior Women’s Team Sunday, trying to avenge a 10-3 setback just a day earlier.
Bravo, the reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Year, finished the tournament with a .385 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage, collecting five hits, scoring three runs, drawing three walks and driving in two runs.
Mexico picked up three wins in a row beginning with a 9-3 victory over Venezuela last Wednesday. The team then beat Argentina 3-2 and Puerto Rico 4-2.
In the final four games of the tournament, Bravo hit 5-for10 with two runs scored and two RBI, including an RBI single for Mexico’s early 2-0 lead in the top of the second of the July 5th game.
